Parishioners can now continue to support their parish from the convenience of their home computer, phone or tablet by using the new Parish Support web page established by the Diocese of Allentown.
Parishes cannot exist without their weekly collections. Pastors still have bills to pay, but the cancellation of public Masses to protect people from Coronavirus has significantly reduced their offertory income.
The new web page, which can be reached by clicking the “Parish Support” button on AD Today, allows anyone to designate a one-time or recurring gift to their parish and to make that payment by credit card or electronic transfer.
The payment system on the page is safe and secure. The money goes directly to the selected parish.
“In most cases, weekly collections are the only source of funds for parish operations,” said Paul Acampora, Secretary for Stewardship & Development. “I ask everyone to prayerfully consider continuing their support during this difficult time.”
Most parishes have the ability to accept electronic donations, and more are getting the capability every day. If you don’t see your parish listed, its electronic donation process may still be in development, so check back often. When you get to the webpage, you may want to bookmark it. Even though the giving site is secure, anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable with online giving is encouraged to continue to send their envelopes directly to their pastor at the parish mailing address.
“Healthy parish communities will play important roles during this crisis, and perhaps even more importantly, after this crisis passes,” said Bishop Alfred Schlert. “I urge all of us to remain connected in prayer and in support of our parishes.”
