Married couples from around the Diocese are invited to renew their vows and thank God for the gift of the Sacrament of Marriage during the annual Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass, to be celebrated at 2 p.m. September 18.
The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Alfred Schlert at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown.
Those couples celebrating 1-5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50-plus years of marriage will receive special recognition.
Like vocations to the Priesthood or to Religious Life, the Sacrament of Marriage is a response to a call from God, who says, “Follow me.”
“The love of husband and wife becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves,” according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
By their marriage, the couple is witness to Christ’s spousal love for the Church. In answering God’s call to marriage, the couple promises, with the help of divine grace, a sacramental partnership of life and love.
