Groups from the Diocese of Allentown will be among the hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans traveling to Washington, D.C. today (1/20) for the 50th anniversary of the March for Life, which began as a protest against Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion across the nation.
Things have come full circle now, as the march celebrates a new Supreme Court ruling and will instead march to the U.S. Capitol. But Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, said this year’s theme “Next Steps: Marching into a Post-Roe America,” reminds us that pro-life advocates still have work to be done to save unborn babies.
“With Roe now behind us, we are empowered to save countless innocent American lives by continuing to advocate for commonsense protections at the state and federal level, educating Americans on the intrinsic dignity of all human life,” Mancini said.
“This year will be a somber reminder of the millions of lives lost to abortion in the past 50 years, but also a celebration of how far we have come and where we as a movement need to focus our effort as we enter this new era in our quest to protect life.”
Pictured is the group departing this morning on the bus from St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, Easton.
In addition to St. Jane, they represent Sacred Heart Church, Bethlehem; Sacred Heart Church, Bath; Our Lady of Mercy Church, Easton; Assumption BVM Church, Colesville; Holy Family Church, Nazareth; Holy Ghost Church, Bethlehem; Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Bethlehem; Beth El Gibor in Bethlehem (a Messianic Jewish Congregation); DeSales University, Center Valley; Mount Bethel Church (Lutheran Brethren); and Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Branchville, N.J.
The March for Life Rally begins at noon on the National Mall, followed by the March for Life along Constitution Avenue to the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building.
The March for Life organization will livestream the rally via its Facebook page and YouTube channel.
