The Diocese of Allentown has received an allegation of sexual misconduct against Monsignor Edward Sacks dating back to the 1970s when he was assigned to the former Holy Name High School, Reading.
Under its longstanding policy of Zero Tolerance, the Diocese immediately notified law enforcement of the allegation. It also immediately removed Monsignor Sacks from active ministry, pending the results of an investigation.
The Diocese took these precautionary actions in accordance with its policies designed to protect children. The actions are not an indication of guilt or innocence. Monsignor Sacks is presumed innocent unless an investigation determines otherwise.
Monsignor Sacks, 80, was ordained a priest in 1964 and has been the pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Bethlehem Township since 1988.
Anyone who knows of incidents of abuse, in the Church or elsewhere, should report it to the State Child Line at 1-800-932-0313, the State Attorney General’s hotline at 1-888-538-8541 or to local law enforcement.
