To meet a growing need among students, the Diocese of Allentown Office of Education will open a Northampton County location of its Aquinas Learning Support Program (ALSP) for elementary students at St. Anne’s School of Bethlehem at the beginning of the 2017-18 school year. St. Anne’s School will host an Open House for prospective students and will introduce the program to the community on April 20 at 6:30pm.
Diocese of Allentown Catholic Schools believe that all children are unique, learn at different rates and are to be challenged to their fullest potential. The Aquinas Learning Support Program, which began in the Diocese at the former SS. Cyril and Methodius School in Bethlehem in September 2000, offers a Christ-centered, quality academic education for students with diagnosed learning disabilities at the elementary and secondary levels. Its emphasis is on learning strategies to help children foster independence. Students are challenged to learn self-acceptance, self-discipline, cooperation skills, and consistent work habits.
The ALSP is currently available for elementary students at St. John Vianney Regional School, Allentown and St. Margaret School, Reading. Catholic high schools that offer the program are Berks Catholic, Reading, and Notre Dame, Easton. The Diocese of Allentown serves nearly 12,000 students in 33 elementary schools, 6 high schools, and 3 special learning centers across Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Carbon, and Schuylkill counties.
